I Dream of Flying Refrigerators
I used to have a friend who grew up in the desert around Barstow, California. He was a pretty funny guy and he used to tell me tall tales about his childhood including a game they played with refrigerators. According to him, he and a few other teenagers would form two teams, retreat to their respective sides of a canyon and with help from some judicious dirt piling and a little dynamite left over from the area’s mining days, they would launch ancient refrigerator carcasses across the canyon at their foes.

by Michael Smith (Veshengro) Reusable finds and recycling DIY (with those items found or others) Ever since childhood this has been a part of me; the taking home with me of things found (that have been lost or even discarded by others) that might be useful in themselves as they are or if broken that could be repaired or that could be made into something else. I just hate seeing things go to waste and into the waste stream that do not have to.

Give, Help, Donate, and (Re)Buy
This weekend my wife and I went off in search of a carpet remnant. In our case we needed some cheap, clean carpet to cover more expensive carpet so my wife could go a little wild with her paints in a borrowed art studio (nee bedroom). The point was that we needed something and we did not want to pay very much for it. Our solution was to visit the ReStore (http://www.restorenova.org/)in Alexandria, Virginia where we got a serviceable few yards of pile carpet for just $5 or about a quarter of what it would have cost had we bought it new.
