where are people christmas shopping for awesome green gifts?
my sister and i have made a pact to only gift our family with presents that fall in the green category. we are making it a little competition to help us be as green as posisble this winter.
i am shopping online as much as possible. my favourite place right now is www.sweetguides.ca
they have some amazing green presents right now.
we are also sewing fabric wrapers and making my husband put up LED christmas lights this year rather than the normal ones.

One of the suggestions through the low carbon diet action plan is to have at least one vegetarian meal a week. But, how does one do that in a meat-loving society that blatantly advertises being a carnivore as a way of life?My husband and I eat a lot of meat: for lunch salami sandwiches then chicken dinners or sometimes beef- Sunday breakfast is eggs and salami on English muffins. So, suffice to say the thought of not hav » read more

One of the first things to happen when you start storing trash in your basement is that you think a lot about “stuff”. The stuff we buy, the stuff that stuff all comes packaged in, the stuff we throw away. Stuff, Stuff,Stuff. It’s everywhere, and in many ways, it has become endemic to who we are. » read more

I still would not buy one darn thing from the Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog. It takes pretentious to the next level. How can anyone justify spending $73,000 on a cell phone studded with 7.2 carats of white and pink diamonds? Or buying your own submarine for $1.44 Million. Just because you can doesn't mean that you should! So many people have truely lost sight of what is really important in life and are too absorbed with keeping up with the Jones'! Knowing that there are people in this country without healthcare I could not walk around talking on my $73,000 cell phone! What » read more

In case you weren't aware, September 28th (this Sunday) is Green Consumer Day, a great day to think about your choices as a consumer and consider how they could be greener.
The best way to be a green consumer is not to be a consumer at all. It is easy to get excited about all the new green gadgets and organic products out there. These products may be green, but they will never be as green as the product that isn't made at all, and this is an important thing to keep in mind. The greenest path is to make do with what you have.

It's time to start your back to school shopping (if you haven't already). Here are a few ways you can make your experience a bit more eco-friendly this time around.
--Before you go shopping for school supplies this year, check around the house to see what you already own, and what you have left over from last year. Waste not, want not! The less you buy, the more you help the environment.
--When shopping for new clothes, don't go crazy. » read more

One of the easiest ways I have found to help the environment is not to use the plastic bags at the store. Instead, I bring my own tote bags and then just re-use them each time we go grocery shopping. Even though plastic is recycleable, it is better to use cloth bags because they can be washed and re-used.

How to USE Your Swipe...
Did you know that if you got a credit card offer in the mail today, chances are it came from one of many corporate mega-banks…which often fund projects you may not approve of, such as harming the earth, contributing to mountaintop-removal coal mining, and predatory lending? For example, Morgan Stanley (Discover card) along with other mega-banks financed TXU’s 2007 plans to build 11 new coal-fired plants in Texas.

Want to buy "greener" products, and make sure you are getting what you paid for? Follow these tips:
Beware of Wording - It might say that its "green," "nontoxic," and "all natural,"etc etc but these terms are vague and there are no government regulations monitoring these products and words to make sure that they are really offering what they are promising. The company could easily add in an environmentally friendly factor and still have harmful toxins in it. » read more
