When we ask our selves "Paper or plastic?" at the grocer's, the answer is usually, "My own recycled cloth bag or Earth Bin, please!' But when the holiday season comes around, and I'm looking for a tree, the choice of real or artificial is just as limiting.

In New England, the fall foliage season is big business. The yearly display brings many thousands of tourists, or "peepers," to the region. However, climate change may be threatening to spoil everyone's fun.
The leaves change color at this time each year because cooler temperatures cause chlorophyll, the chemical that makes leaves green, to break down. » read more

Shockingly, there are only a few companies out there that actually encourage people to buy their products for environmental reasons. One of the largest mistakes a business can make is to not be conscious of the environment and, more importantly, the people who care about it.

The builders today are taking away farmlands and forests, which are our sources of oxygen. People across the sea are destroying rain-forests, which is even more important because of how huge they are. Why would people be destroying these if they all KNOW very well that the Earth isn't doing so well, and we need all the forests and plant-life we can get. The ozone isn't thanking these people because taking away the trees and plants puts more CO2 in the air, since these plants absorb the CO2 and put out oxygen for us. All I want to know is why? We've got enough shopping as it is, alright? » read more

This is a review for the short story The Lorax by Dr. Suess. I found the full text here if you don't mind funky text colors. This was submitted for a contest on progressiveu.org and I actually was one of the winners!

I know it seems hard to find time to plant 2 trees for every one you cut down but if you don't soon we wont have any tree to cut down! If you are building a home and are cutting down alot of trees and don't think you have the time or the patience to plant more then hire a landscaping efficial to do it for you. He'll be happy to help our environment.

The maple trees are sprouting buckets again. Happens this time of year- soon sweet watery sap will flow form the trees and fill the buckets, and I’ll take them to the sugarhouse to be cooked down over pinewood fires into thick syrup. We’ll give a lot away and keep a few gallons to get us through a year’s worth of pancakes, waffles, smoothies and ice cream. Abundance.
