At Greenopolis, we’re always dreaming big. Our dream for 2010 is to unroll 3,000 new Greenopolis recycling kiosks across America.

This dream has so many potential implications for the reality of recycling. Unrolling 3,000 Greenopolis recycling kiosks in the market is a key goal for several reasons. First, we know if we are going to integrate PET plastic re-processing into our model we needed minimums of at least 12 million lbs. to 20 million lbs. of recovered plastic. This is the amount of PET plastic [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_terephthalate] needed to efficiently operate a recycling facility. Having 3,000 Greenopolis recycling kiosks would get us to that amount of plastic and help us run a facility.
Second, and most obviously, having 3,000 machines will gain mass exposure for our model. Picture this: if we assume that 1,000 people a week recycled with a Greenopolis recycling station that is three million people per week recycling at our kiosks. Another one of our major goals for 2010 is to have one million registered users (people who are receiving points through our partners [http://greenopolis.com/partnerships]) in the Greenopolis recycling system, which means we will have to attract and maintain at least one third of total users to accomplish this.
Three thousand machines is a significant investment that supports our hope of having a significant impact on the environment. These machines and this recycling system will allow us to collect up to 20 million lbs. of “on the go plastic” that could have ended up in landfills. We will have one million people engaging in the conversation about resource conservation. This kind of collaborative conservation will help us to close the loop together.
On our quest to 3,000 machines across the U.S., we want to hear your input. If you want to have a Greenopolis recycling kiosk in your town, tell us where you live. You never know, we might just end up in a storefront near you.
