Keep Mountain Tops Where They Belong

PrintPrint 1 comments

I met photographer J. Henry Fair about a decade ago when he was co-founding the New York Wolf Center and I was fighting the Farm Bureau to keep the wolves in Yellowstone. I stopped working directly on wolves in 2002 and lost track of Henry. That is until recently via the miracle of social networking sites.

It turns out that Henry is still working with wolves and at the same time doing some wonderful photography. His current work is a truly amazing portfolio called Industrial Scars (www.industrialscars.com). This developing body of photographs documents the often unseen damage wrought by our consumption and often hyper-consumption of natural resources. His photos of phosphate and coal mines as well as oil operations in the Catskills are sobering reminders we often forget about or ignore when we turn up the thermostat instead of putting on a sweater or forget to consolidate shopping trips. It is an emerging work as he plenty to capture and more happening every day.

Henry’s work touches the soul (or should) and hopefully makes people think more about the consequence of their actions and the need for changes in the way we treat our planet. Take a moment to visit Henry’s site or get involved with Music Saves Mountains (http://www.musicsavesmountains.org/) a collaboration between Henry, NRDC, the Gibson (Guitars) Foundation, and a whole host of country stars out to stop mountain top removal. Good work, Henry!

Right on the mark

Mountains of waste for a resource that wastes the atmosphere and kills over 30,000 Americans each year?? Sounds like a bad business deal to me.
