We want to reward you for your actions. That's why we created Greenopolis Rewards. You can earn points by recycling in our Greenopolis Recycling Kiosks, blogging and commenting on Greenopolis and by recycling at home in selected cities. These points can then be traded in on coupons for meals, entertainment, discounts and more.
Our Greenopolis Recycling Kiosks are a big part of our commitment to conservation, recycling and tracking waste to resources. This Tracker shows the number of bottles, cans and other waste these machines have collected so far. Check our Kiosk Locator on our home page for a Greenopolis Recycling Kiosks near you.
There is no need to use extra resources and incur more expenses when starting your seeds. You can use one (or all) of these items that you have laying around your house to get your garden started.
Toilet or Paper Towel Rolls These are items that all of use have in our houses. You can easily transform them to give them (and some veggies) a new life in a matter of minutes. One of the best things about using TP rolls is that the entire thing, roll and all, can be transplanted into the soil when ready because it will biodegrade. No waste at all.
Newspaper Pots Black and white newspaper is another readily available item that can be used to start your seeds in. If you don't have any in the house, then pick up some of the free ones that can be found outside of supermarkets or on the street. By using a glass and a few folds of the paper, you'll have yourself a biodegradable seed starter pot at no cost.
Plastic Strawberry Container When strawberries are in season, these things accumulate quickly. You can easily turn them into a seed starter pot that can be used season after season. The entire container can be transplanted into the soil when it's ready. The roots will bust through the newspaper, wrap around the bottom of the container and situate itself nicely in it's new home. When the growing season is over, you can dig up the container and use again the following season.
Egg Shell Pots This is another zero waste seed starter. When cracking open your eggs, crack them about a quarter of the way from the top, rinse out, poke some drainage holes at the bottom and you have yourself a seed starter pot. When the seeds are ready to go, you can plant the entire egg into the soil.
Coconut Shells Most of us in the US don't live in the climate that's suitable for growing coconuts, but still love having the pleasure of enjoying them. You can help to combat the environmental impact of the shipping of them by reusing the shells to plant your seeds. Besides giving the coconut shell a second life as as seed starter, it can then be used as a container for the plant as well. This works well with veggies that have shallow roots such as lettuces and greens.
There's no need to buy fancy seed starter pots or any seed starter pots at all. You already have all you need to get your started today. What are some other creative things that can be used to start your seeds in?
