Tools and Materials Needed

• 1 magazine (5 pages)
• Scissor or razor

• Rip five pages out of a magazine.
• Cut torn edges so they are straight.
• Cut the pages in half lengthwise.
• Fold each page into thirds. Making sure that you fold the cut edges inwards.
• Then fold that in half. Repeat for all pages.
• Start weaving. This is where it gets to be a bit confusing and you need some coordination. I'd definitely consult the images in the original post or check out my video.
• You want to weave the fold pages into each other so they interlock. Think over, under, over, under.
• After the first two strips are interlocked, you'll want to add another strip to interlock with those and keep going.
• Like I said check out the images in the original or check the video. It's too confusing for me to write.
• Make sure that the strips remain tight together while weaving.
• Once you have all of the strips interlocked, you'll want to cut off the extra edges and tuck them into the closest weave.
• Your coaster is now complete.
• You can spray with acrylic to harden and seal it or just use it as is and accept that the paper will crinkle up some.

My Take on the Project

This project is definitely difficult to explain, but easy to show in pictures and video. You need a lot of coordination to weave the strips together.

It'd be interesting if you selected magazine pages that when interlocked made a cool pattern. The two real concerns that I have are whether the pages will remain tightly together and how the water will affect it. Since it only takes about 20 minutes to make one, it's certainly worth experimenting with.
