OK... So just a quick update on my status! I left Missoula yesterday and enjoyed a beautiful climb over a small pass and a absolutely gorgeous 56 mile ride to Perma, MT. Perma is not a town as much as it is an abandoned ghost town / riverside community along the Flathead River on an Indian reservation. Ghost town or not I was able to find an absolutely sweet camping spot right along the river with stunning views (pictures to come when I have high speed Internet).
The camping was amazing and waking up to the Montana mountain air and sun is a feeling that can only be described based on experience and not what you may read in books or travel guides. Early in the AM I hit the road with a head full of steam and enjoyed a beautiful day of Montana biking for 46 miles into Thompson Falls. Along the way I almost ran straight into a herd of big horn sheep at a blazing 30 MPH downhill. That was wild. Thompson Falls is a quaint little town nestled on the Clark Fork River and offers stunning views from the campsite I sit here now and update this journal. Tomorrow I head to Idaho and I will be confronted with two mountain passes and beautiful scenery. I am sad to leave Montana however I am excited to enter Idaho and dig deeper into the Western mountains.
To make a long story short... I am thrilled to be heading into the Northwest where the wilderness becomes abundant and more spectacular around each turn. I am aware that I may be heading into some fickle, wet and cold weather... however I can guarantee that the beautiful vistas and wildlife are going to be worth my efforts. Sorry to run so fast but the battery on my laptop is about to die :)
