Essentially words to describe how I am feeling right now just simply do no exists. The past 24 hours I have been frenzied with a tremendous amount of exploration, family time and learning... Oh yeah and then there is that cross country bike ride across America I am about to embark upon!
Living primarily in the western portion of the United States for the past 6 years makes it very difficult to see family when I would like. Beyond that… family getaways are typically a decade in between one another. However I decided that having my family with me in Maine to see me off on my journey was not only important to me… but to us as a family. It truly allows them to see what goes into this mission and the dedication I have put forth. So far the best part of the trip up to New England is watching my mother get excited and I know why… She knows that her son is willing to put his passion and his cause in front of everything that is going on. She gets it. And I love it!
So tomorrow is mother’s day and my family will be with me on the Maine coast to say bon voyage to create a quintessential push from the Great big Atlantic Ocean. If only my old man were still alive to tell me how crazy I am and to brag about me as he always did. RIP
I hope I didn’t lose you with the mushy stuff because the adventure is about to begin! In just the past 24 hours New England has taken me on a superimposed walk through my memory as a childhood exploring nature in its most natural and preserved condition. There is a smell here that reminds me of the first time I had ever gotten lost in the woods and there is a tremendous amount of character in the local community that demonstrated that everyone is no match for Mother Nature in the North East. New England has one thing that everyone and thing should have… It has character.
On an educational note I had woke up early this morning to attend and the Chewonki Sustainable Energy Conference in Wiscasset, ME and if you get the chance I highly recommend attending this conference. There were great educators, listeners and locals who are passionate about making not only Maine… but the entire country a more sustainable place to live. I learned more today in 4 hours than I have in a very long time. And… to top it all off I got to have a great conversation with Marcus the founder of http://www.eastcoastebikes.com and his product is sweet! I rode his electric bike!
I enjoy Maine because the people here give a damn. And I recently overheard… “ If you don’t stand for something… you stand for nothing” It looks like I will fit right in here over the next few weeks. Until next time… Take care and take action!
Please support me in cause and donate!
