While savoring my waning moments of solitude between Mother’s Day and school letting out this summer, I thought I'd check up on the oil disaster in the gulf - and sadly the news is continuously bad. Still pouring out sludge into our waters, not a plug in sight :(
Which got me to thinking- who the heck gave these guys the green light to bring all their billions of bucks in machinery, manpower, etc., WITHOUT a contingency plan? No mother, I can tell you that.

We moms have a knack for running the most-likely, least-likely and vastly implausible "what-if's" in our minds nearly every second of the day. It's on automatic - we can't help it.
A simple day out with the kids yields a contingency plan chock full of baby wipes (no matter the kids ages), wash clothes, sunscreen, first aid, extra clothes, books, toys, sweaters (even if it's summer), drinks, snacks, duct tape (ok maybe that's just me - see implausible above) and anything else our neurotic minds can conjure up as necessary should a swarm of killer bees or a flash flooding occur. Not to mention the equipment - strollers, car seats, playpens, playmats...I can guarantee that if you compare preparedness in a diaper bag to an Army issue backpack - the diaper bag would win - hands down.
Which brings me to my point: if moms were running this show - these oil guys wouldn't have had a single pipe laid until they presented their diaper bag. And it would have included lots of duct tape, an enormous containment apparatus and hose to redirect the mess, should they spill their milk. Because moms think of these things.

So they snuck around behind mom's back and did it anyway. Well, we all know what happens next, so listen up BP, US government & the rest of you non-mom's in charge: You are grounded until you clean this mess up! NO GOLF, NO YACHTING, NO PARTIES, NO GAMES, NO PRESS CONFERENCES, NO ESCORTS - IN FACT - NO CLEAN UNDERWEAR - until this room is spotless. Keep it up and they'll be no dinner for you either. Oh, and by the way- you're fired, Mom's in charge now.

Take action! Visit the Oil Spill Action Center and send a message to our President about offshore drilling.
Then call your mother.
