Funky Urban Furniture Made from Found Logs

L.A.-based furniture design studio Ilan Dei unveils a new Urban Logs collection made from logs found around Venice Beach!

One of my favorite cartoons of all time is the absolutely hilarious The Ren & Stimpy Show, and one of my favorite songs from that show is simply called “Log.” Why do I like it so much? Well, the lyrics go as follows: “What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, and over your neighbor's dog? What's great for a snack, and fits on your back? It's log, log, log. It's log, it's log. It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's log, it's log, it's better than bad, it's good!"

As you can see by the powerful song lyrics (envision my sarcastic smile here), logs are good for just about everything, and apparently Ilan Dei Studio believes this as well because the designer just created an entire collection of funky furniture made from none other than…logs!

Unfortunately, the studio’s inspiration for this collection didn’t come from the Ren & Stimpy song, but from seeing beautiful pieces of logs lying around the studio’s Venice Beach neighborhood. Ilan Dei wanted to combine the beauty and reusability of the logs with a sophisticated design to make a collection that was cool and classy for everyone.

Here are a few pictures of the first pieces from the collection:

So, what types of logs were used? The website says:” The first run of furniture used redwood for the tables and chairs, and White Oak for the lights, however, there is such a variety of species available around the Los Angeles area that future generations will constantly be changing species.” That means future collections are going to look just as unique and amazing as this one. It also means that a lot of random logs lying around L.A. won’t be going to waste.

I don’t know what the studio will come up with next, but I do know that the Canadian creators from The Ren & Stimpy Show would be very proud of this collection.
