Via Nativa Imports: Fair-Trade, Reclaimed Wood Jewelry from Nicaragua

Discover handmade rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings made from salvaged and sustainable wood!

I’m a big fan of reclaimed wood jewelry, just like the beautiful rings featured in the post Simply Wood Rings Are Simply Too Cool. I also love to support companies that offer fair-trade products made by independent artists.  Via Nativa Imports does both of these things. The New York-based company sells beautiful, handcrafted jewelry made from reclaimed wood, and sales from the jewelry help support the families of economically disadvantaged artists in Nicaragua. The company’s overall goal is to preserve the salvaged wood which is made into jewelry, and to preserve the heritage of the Nicaraguan people.

Most of the wood that’s used for the rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces comes from reclaimed hardwood, but some of it comes from a FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified manufacturer. The jewelry is handmade by Nicaraguan artists who have ad-hoc workstations set up in their home so they can be close to their families. Want to see how the jewelry is made? Watch this video:

Via Nativa also sells Home Décor and Hammocks that are made in Nicaragua. You can read more about what the company is up to on the Via Nativa Blog.
