Old Books Recycled into New Planters

An Italian company turns some of your favorite reading material into amazing planters!

There are many different ways to reuse and recycle books. They can be resold at a used bookstore, just like at Ukazoo Books in Baltimore, Maryland, or they can be made into useful stuff like hand-crafted book furniture.  Apparently they can also be converted into cool planters, as proven by the folks at Gartenkultur.

Italy-based Gardenkultur repurposes old hardback books by drilling a hole in them, sealing them with insulation and then filling them with seeds!  Water doesn’t leak through the insulation, so plants like bonsai can grow to their fullest.  Once they die, you can even plant new seedlings in their space.

You can order these planters (or have them custom-made with your favorite hardback book) on the Gartenkultur website.
