Rapping Robot Teaches UK Children About the Importance of Recycling
Meet Recycler the Rapping Robot: He’s English, He’s a Robot and He Raps!
Do you remember when you first learned about the importance of recycling? If you didn’t learn it from home, you probably learned it in elementary school. Elementary school is the perfect time to educate children about recycling because they constantly grasp for knowledge, and they still have fun every time that they learn something new. Oh, and they like toys.
So, wouldn’t it make sense to teach elementary school children about how much fun recycling can be…with a big toy robot?
Okay, bear with me. I’m not talking about a giant Transformer or something out of Star Wars. I’m talking about a groovy English robot named Recycler that teaches young children about the 3 R’s of recycling—reduce-reuse-recycle—in a very entertaining way.
He raps!
Recycler the Rapping Robot is more than just gadgets and plastic parts: he’s a hip robot with his own entourage of back up “waste” dancers that gets kids to rap with him about recycling. With his high-pitched voice he first speaks eloquently to the kids about the importance of recycling, and then he kicks into “cool” mode with a catchy rap that sticks in your head for quite a long time. Believe me. I watched the video.
Speaking of the video, here’s a clip of Recycler the Rapping Robot entertaining children from his hometown in the Arun district of England, which is located near West Sussex:
The Arun District Council teamed with Waste Watch, an environmental charity in the UK, and the Recycle Now Campaign, which is the UK’s go-to-guide for recycling, to make Recycler a fun and interactive robot for the local children. So far he’s had nothing but positive feedback, and the children actually enjoy rapping to his music.
I wish that I had something like Recycler the Rapping Robot when I was in elementary school. Back then recycling demonstrations consisted of dirty soda cans and posters with jaggedly-cut construction paper letters. I’m so happy to see how advanced technology has become and how much our interest in the environment has grown!
Now please excuse me, there’s a tune in my head that’s telling me to recycle right now.
