Top 10 Green Cartoons from the 80sThe 1980s was a decade full of toxic hairspray, but it was also full of eco-friendly cartoon characters!
I grew up watching some of the best cartoons ever made (at least in my opinion), and they were all part of what I called the awesome eighties. They just don’t make cartoons as entertaining and cheesy and My Little Pony, Thundercats and He-Man anymore, but at least people can still watch reruns of them on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Even though the environmental disaster known as the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill happened in the late 80s, and people used toxic Aquanet hairspray and bought PVC plastic-produced slap bracelets and jelly shoes, there were many cartoons that had eco-friendly characters and storylines. Here are 10 of the greenest cartoons from that memorable decade: 1. The World of David the Gnome (premiered 1987)
David and the other gnomes were vegetarians that lived in natural caves and in holes under trees. 2. The Smurfs (premiered 1981)
The Smurfs were vegetarians that ate leaves and berries, and they lived in mushroom-like houses in the middle of a beautiful green forest. 3. Transformers (premiered 1984)
The Transformers were robots that were able to transform into vehicles and other weapons, but they were super green because they didn’t consume any gas! 4. Inspector Gadget (premiered 1983)
Inspector Gadget was a clumsy detective whose gadgets like the Gadget ‘Copter and Gadget Cuffs were mechanized and didn’t require gasoline or electricity (as far as we knew). He also had a Gadget Sunflower that emerged from his hat and sprayed water on enemies. 5. My Little Pony (premiered 1984)
These cute ponies had seashells, flowers, doves and other Earth elements featured on their backsides, and they lived in Pony Land, a green land that was right over the rainbow. 6. The Snorks (premiered 1984)
The Snorks were colorful creatures that lived underwater in trash-free Snorkland, and they used clams as currency instead of coins or dollar bills. 7. Rainbow Brite (premiered 1984)
Rainbow Brite and the other Color Kids were in charge of the colors of the Earth. She didn’t ride in a gas-guzzling vehicle…she rode a horse with a mane and tail that were the colors of the rainbow! 8. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (premiered 1983)
He-Man didn’t drive an automobile or fly in a plane to battle the evil Skeletor. He rode on Battle Cat, a powerful and fearless green tiger! 9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (premiered 1987)
They were turtles…that lived in the storm sewers of New York! 10. Care Bears (premiered 1985)
These cute and cuddly bears had pictures of the sun, moon, rainbow, stars, clouds, hearts and other nature elements on their bellies and lived in the Kingdom of Caring (located high above the clouds). So, are there any other green 80s cartoons that you can think of? Share
