Xerox Invents Erasable Paper to Reduce Waste!

Find out how Xerox is going green with reusable paper!

Let’s face the facts: no matter how much we try to recycle or cut down on our paper use, we consume paper every day. Whether it’s to get the daily memo at work, or to write down our grocery list, we use paper like it’s nobody’s business!

The worst part about using paper, besides the fact that we have to tear down trees to get them, is that most of us only use paper to read a small bit of information…and then we throw it away! To fix this environmental catastrophe, the super smart folks at the Xerox Research Centre of Canada and PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Inc. are working on a new “erasable paper” project.

1How can this be? Yes, I’m thinking the same thing! Well, here are a few facts about the erasable paper:

  • The scientists developed compounds that change color when they absorb a certain wavelength of light
  • The compounds gradually disappear in about 16-24 hours

  • The paper can be used over and over again

  • Virtually cartridge-free
  • Produces 90% less waste compared to laser printers

2This sounds like a very cool project to me. Here’s Xerox CTO Sophie Vandebroek talking about the reusable paper, as well as a slew of other eco-friendly Xerox products:

All that I can say is, “Hooray for green paper technology!”
