Pray Day for Earth!

“You think you know what time it is? It’s time to pray…” –Jaladin Rumi

Want to connect with your extended family and do something together for a good cause? Toward the end of this month you’ll have the chance, with your very extended family- the rest of humankind. Hey, we’re all related at the 50th cousin level or above! Pray Day for Earth wants to get the whole family together to pray for the planet.

On September 23th, 2010, at 8:30 pm local time in every country around the globe, millions will unite to pray, each in their own way, for the earth and ask for peace, forgiveness and healing. Not sponsored by any religion or sect -no “my God can beat up your God” kind of stuff- this evening is dedicated to praying together, based on common human values. In this chain of love and faith, each person is a link that brings the chain together.

You can do this solo if you wish, or you can plan to get together in homes, clubs, churches, mosques, temples, synagogues, schools and share, meditate, be silent, and pray together. Pray for peace, balance and renewal for the planet, and the opening of hearts to natural and divine wisdom.

If you can’t make a gathering, plan to pray individually at that specific time. If you don’t believe in any god, then pray to the rest of us. “I pray you…” Pray every day if you wish, just …pray. Meister Eckhart once said, “If the only prayer we ever said was ‘Thank you’, it would suffice.”

“Don’t mourn, boys, organize!” – Joe Hill

If you want to go further, you can help organize Pray Day for Earth gatherings in your area.

Make it happen. Bring together a team of committed people and organize an event.
You could include friends, schoolmates, family members, neighbors, the school principal, business leader, or your local politicians. God knows they need it. Sure, some people will think you are weird. But some people think that anyway, so what are you worried about? How can you encourage people to take a little time and just pray for the earth?

Write your newspaper and television channel - get some news coverage on what your community wants to do for Pray Day for Earth. Change the signature on your email and the status on your Facebook page.

Make it happen! Every individual, community, country is unique and can bring its own touch, identity and passion to create Pray Day for Earth this September 23.

Making Pray Day happen is up to you. Prayer for renewing the earth could be a daily practice. I don’t know what it will do for the planet. The important question is: what will it do for you?
