7 Best Eco Beach Beauty Products (And More!)
The beach is the best. There’s sand, there’s sun – and if there’s not sewage and/or oil washing up between your toes – there’s lots of fun. What isn’t so fun is going home crisped up like a fried Twinkie at a state fair. Luckily, there are a lot of great sun protection products you can take along with you to the beach. Look after your body, your hair, and hopefully your complexion for years to come! Burt’s Bees Lifeguard’s Choice Lip Balm ($3.00) As an eco-beauty blogger, I have been lucky enough to sample many a natural lip balm. For the beach, this product is one of the best. 95.29 percent natural, this lip balm contains Vitamin E. It goes on old-school white, giving you the look of a hipster 1960s lifeguard. It is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. The Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database also rates it a 2, which is excellent. Photo courtesy of Burt’s Bees. Coola Mineral Face Matte Finish SPF 30 ($36.00) Once and a while, a product comes along causing you to fall to the ground weeping with joy. Yes, this was one of those products. (And I promise I’m not just being a wee bit dramatic…okay, I am, but you get the point.) Coola’s Mineral Face Matte Finish is free of parabens, preservatives, and chemicals, and it is made with certified organic ingredients. It offers both UVA/UVB protections. Best of all? It also goes on like air and leaves your face with an almost powdery feeling. Photo courtesy of Coola. Alba Botanical Sport Sunblock SPF 45 ($9.95) Sure, we’ve got you covered for the face, but what about your beachy bod? The product contains certified organic aloe vera, calendula, and chamomile. It is paraben-free and water resistant, and it rates a 4 on the Skin Deep Cosmetics Safety Database. Photo courtesy of Alba Botanical. I will carefully apply sunblock to face and body – and then spend the next day cursing my nicely fried scalp. Yes, hats are good. But Aveda recently released a new product that protects your hair and scalps sans hat. The Protective Hair Veil by Aveda contains UVA and UVB filters for your hair, as well as certified organic ingredients. Photo courtesy of Aveda. Product aside, you’re still going to want to find some shade for the ultimate protection at the beach. The Brielle Umbrella is 100 percent biodegradable. Not to mention, it is extremely retro-cute and will make your beach spot one of the coolest in the sand. Photo courtesy of Brielle. Organic Fair Trade Beach Towel from Sea Glass Organics These large, comfy beach towels are made certified organic cotton. They also use low-impact eco dyes and are fair trade from India. And with a brim over five inches, it has enough shade to possible shield a small village. This article is FTC Compliant. Share
