My brother was a model builder. All kinds of models - planes, dinosaurs, trains, ships. I wasn’t. But that didn’t matter. And while I wasn’t particularly into making the models (I’ve never been one to paint inside the lines) I did enjoy watching my brother construct wonderful things that we could take outside and break in the back yard. Now that was fun.
But I never imagined anything like what has shown up in Singapore’s Hotel Rendezvous.
It’s a life-size model F1 car, constructed completely from recycled material collected by local students and hotel staff.
Students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic school, along with hotel staff, collected 652 used plastic bottles, 793 old hotel key cards and other household items like PVC pipes and vacuum cleaner parts, and turned them into an eye-catching display.
The students aided by designing the actual car, while everyone participated in the collection and construction. The model took about two months to complete. The car is now on display at the Hotel Rendezvous in Singapore.
That’s what I call taking eco-responsibility to a whole new level. Hotel owners hope the F1 will generate tourist interest as well as highlight the need for increased recycling within the community.
I wonder if they would let me take it outside and give it a spin. I promise not to break it.
