When Good Hosiery Goes BadLite Green by Sebrina Smith This is the time of year that I begin to think about the approaching cooler weather. I start cleaning out closets and drawers to make room for any new winter wardrobe additions. If you’re like me, you probably have a drawer full of old pantyhose, tights and socks. And even though I know I need to replace some of them with new items, I find it hard to throw them away. (Especially since pantyhose and tights go in and out of fashion almost as fast as I can say the words pantyhose and tights.) But no matter how hard I try to be careful with my hosiery, eventually I’m left with only one good sock from a pair, or hose and tights that have runs, are the wrong color for current fashion, or are just plain worn out. So this year I’ve decided to reuse as many of these items as I can. I’ve been collecting ideas for this project. I’ll share them with you. Make A Sachet For Your Closet Or Dresser Cut a length from the bottom of the hose, leaving the toe intact. Fill with your favorite potpourri and tie off. Suspend from a hanger in your closet to keep your clothes fresh or toss in your dresser drawer to keep that musty smell away. This is a great way to use those left over soap slivers, too. Use In All Kinds Of Kits Around Your House Cut them up into small pieces and use in your shoeshine kit. Keep with your cleaning supplies and use to polish furniture and clean bathroom fixtures. Keep in your car kit, because panty hose make a great emergency fan belt. Keep with your wrapping paper and packaging materials. Use the waist of the hose as a rubber band, or the whole thing to tie up packages, books or newspapers. Or use them as cushioning when mailing large packages. Keep in your first aid kit to use as an emergency sling for a hurt arm. Keep Rolls Of Wrapping Paper In Old Hose Again, cut the waist off the pantyhose. Use the legs to store rolls of wallpaper. Also works great for posters and giftwrap. Use Them In Craft Projects Use colored or textured tights to make stuffed animals for the kids. Or use the pantyhose as stuffing for craft projects such as cushions and dolls. Use Old Hose To Tie Up Plants In Your Garden Just cut the legs off the pair of hose and then cut the legs into lengths. Use these to tie stakes for your plants. The nylon pantyhose are made from is stretchy and durable to withstand weather and water, and will probably last throughout the season. Share
