Zero Energy Dinners Rock

My dining experience on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 was very memorable. One that I will never forget.

I spent the day touring about 20 executives around a number of green businesses in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We enjoyed a fantastic dining experience that evening courtesy of a small restaurant on Spring Garden Road called Onyx.

The eight-course meal was unique in that every course was served either raw or slightly smoked. The utensils were organic, the wine was organic and all of the electricity in the restaurant was turned off, including the lights (we ate by candlelight) and kitche fans. It was a great dinner to say the least.

A little while later, a colleague mused that this kind of dining experience would make for a great fundraiser for environmentally focused non-profits. Fast forward a year or so, and presto -it is happened. Check out media coverage of the event here.

Clean Air Champions tool the lead on this worthwhile cause and hosting the first 'Zero Energy Dinner' in Vancouver, British Columbia last August 25. A number of Canadian national team athletes participated in the event that raised money for the host charity, Clean Air Champions (a wonderful orgainzation).

Why mention this now? Many of the Clean Air Chamions are particiating in the Winter Olymics in Vancouver this month - I wish them (Canadians) and athletes from around the world the best of luck in the games!
