I have one crafty pop. He's always been good at making and fixing things, and he has a great eye for curbside finds.
This time, he put both of those skills together to create a beautiful piece of furniture.
One day, he noticed a chifferobe on his neighbor's curb and just knew it had more life in it. So much more than he realized at first.
This chifferobe looked like any other ordinary piece of furniture. But the green paint chipping away from it disguised its true beauty. Beneath its minty veneer lay heavenly aromatic cedar. Who would ever think to paint over aromatic cedar?
I wish I had a before shot. I imagine it looked kind of like this armoire, only a bit more haggard.

The after is quite beautiful. My dad used a non-toxic soy-based paint stripper to remove the paint, revealing this gorgeous cedar. He then reconstructed the piece into this lovely chest of drawers.

He even fashioned the keyholes out of some recycled tin. The hardware for the handles is new, but I'm guessing given more time, some antique handles or another material to make them out of would have surfaced.

Proof that one person's trash can be turned into another's treasure (chest).
