When you first go to the Vocal Trash website, your ears are instantly serenaded by the soulful sounds of "Takin’ it to the Streets," a song made popular in the 70’s by the Doobie Brothers. Not only is the music great, but so is the appeal of the website. Purple bricks provide the perfect backdrop for a bright homepage with funky urban shadows.
Doesn’t the homepage alone make you a bit curious to find out what this whole Vocal Trash thing is about? It definitely did for me, so I had to learn more.
Vocal Trash is the name of a 5 member group that performs, sings and plays "trash" instruments together. The four male members, Steve, Sean, Norwood and Chris, are all from Texas, while the lone female member, Kelsey, is from Washington. All of the members use their musical talent and unique sense of style to make up an urban broadway musical group that many are calling "Stomp with vocals."
Let me tell you, I saw Stomp a few years back in Baltimore, and Vocal Trash is up to par with Stomp’s musical skills and entertainment value. I personally love the Vocal Trash set with its graffiti-covered walls. The background goes perfectly with what you’re watching, 5 people making awesome music with trash cans, car rims, buckets, puppets, brooms, and cowboy hats. Oh, and there’s breakdancing, which is always fun to watch.
If you’re somewhat unsure but incredibly fascinated by the mention of puppets and breakdancing, then you’ll just have to go to a live show!
The people in Texas have so many wonderful opportunities to catch this show, as it’s playing in various Dallas and Forth Worth locations. The show is also traveling to states like Pennsylvania, Nevada, Missouri, Wyoming, New York, Iowa, Ohio, Washington and South Carolina, but not Baltimore. Just my luck. Let’s hope that the show will be a worldwide success so that it can share its live performances with everyone.
I almost forgot to mention the best part of the website, where you can listen to some of the music that Vocal Trash performs. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw one of my favorite songs, Patsy Clines’ "Walkin’ After Midnight." Listening to the group perform this country classic with recycled household products made me appreciate the power of the green movement, and music, even more.
I encourage you to listen to Vocal Trash’s music and to purchase tickets to the Vocal Trash Street Show if it’s in your area. You may be inspired to purchase the group’s new CD, "Vocal Trash – Recycled Grooves," or you may want to form your own garage band with yesterday’s trash.
