Green Cleaning: Seventh Generation

This year, make your spring cleaning a whole lot more sustainable.

1It’s that time of the year again. The snow is melting, plants and grass are poking through the dirt, birds are singing, etc. Yep, it’s Spring. And with Spring comes that annual, hated task of “spring cleaning”. (I say hated because I despise hard-core cleaning. I do it on a regular basis, but I still don’t like it.) But before you bust out your rag and favorite germ killing product, take a look at the label. Do you recognize the ingredients? Are the chemicals used harmful and to the environment? If so, might be time to look for a new line-up. I suggest Greenopolis partner Seventh Generation.

According to their website,

“Seventh Generation is committed to becoming the world's most trusted brand of authentic, safe, and environmentally-responsible products for a healthy home. For 20 years, the closely held Burlington, Vermont-based company has been at the forefront of a cultural change in consumer behavior and business ethics…”

“The company derives its name from the Great Law of the Iroquois that states, ‘In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.’ Every time you use a Seventh Generation product you are making a difference by saving natural resources, reducing pollution, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.”

Personally, I think that’s a pretty good business model. And, to  be quite frank, I’m pretty sure that bottle of  bleach I have in my closet isn’t even close to being so committed to keeping my future children’s planet safe. With a product line-up ranging from disinfectants to household cleaners, there’s no excuse not to give them a try.

I’m definitely going to have to do a little “cleaning” of my cleaning products. Care to join me?
