Just Call Me Martha Stewart!

Green Your Home Décor with These Fresh, Fabulous Looks

The only thing that I don’t like about living in an apartment is that I’m limited by what I can do to make it feel like “home.” Theoretically, I can paint the walls (if I paint them back to white before I leave), and I can hang up smaller pictures and frames… but that’s about it. Nothing that permanently alters the state of my unit. Sigh…

BUT, that’s ok, because other people have homes for which I can provide lots of inspiration!

So, lucky reader, today I shall act as your very own green Martha Stewart (unsolicited, of course) and show you three of the coolest green home-looks that I’ve recently found.

Let’s start with throw pillows:

Aren’t these amazing pillows from Hammocks & High Tea gorgeous? While on the pricey side, designer Karen Young’s line is quality through and through. Best of all, she’s committed to keeping things green. According to the posting on Green Your Décor:

  • Pillows are hand screenprinted in Brooklyn, N.Y. on hemp/organic cotton blend fabric
  • Printed with water-based inks
  • Available inserts made of recycled plastic bottles

And accents? How about candles! (Which, of course, would go mighty fine with those stunning throw pillows…)

Just listen to what bambeco has to say about these:

Hewn and crafted by hand from FSC-certified walnut, the Arroyo collection is filled with stylish basics that will become more and more beautiful over time. Ingeniously simple, these block candleholders and soy candles can be grouped together or displayed on their own to add a warm glow to any room in the house. Their appeal lies in the purity of their shapes and the natural, organic beauty of the wood grain. Each one is made with care by local artisans in Los Angeles and hand-oiled to enhance the beauty of the wood grain.

The walls! We must update the walls with something… frames! But not just any frames. No, we must have classy, sophisticated frames. Like these ones from Frame The [Date]:

I adore not only the look, but the story behind these frames:

… The venture that became frame the [date] is a loving collaboration by two sisters. All photography is original and shot in environment; frames are handmade from wood that is harvested using good timber practices; mats are hand cut from acid-free, high rag content stock. A diverse inventory of number styles, from rustic to urban to traditional, give you scope to create a commemorative piece that is, we hope, as personally significant as the piece that inspired the company.

There are plenty of other green home decor ideas out there. Just take a look online, or get creative and see what you can invent on your own!
