Our Greenopolis Recycling Kiosks are a big part of our commitment to conservation, recycling and tracking waste to resources. This Tracker shows the number of bottles, cans and other waste these machines have collected so far. Check our Kiosk Locator on our home page for a Greenopolis Recycling Kiosks near you.
Greenopolis’ own Melissa McGinnis takes on the Gulf
If you’ve been keeping up with our very own Greenopolis TV phenom, Melissa McGinnis, you’d know that lately she’s been keeping a close eye on the situation in the Gulf. With several recent video reports, she’s managed to provide up to date news to not only our Greenopolis community, but also to other online journalists looking for credible sources of information. (Need proof? Just check out this post by the New Orleans Examiner Laurie Wiegler.)
As part of her journeys, Melissa has had the opportunity to meet numerous individuals looking to make a difference, and many do so in uncommon ways.
Take her recent story on Captain Lori DeAngelis of Dolphin Queen Cruises, a private charter boat service. (See below video.)
As you can see from the video, Lori is very concerned about the health of the Gulf’s dolphin population – she’s seeing fewer on her trips and the ones she is seeing aren’t as active. Not a good sign.
And Lori knows signs – she’s no stranger to her aquatic family. Because the dolphins are familiar with her voice and the sound of her boat, they associate it with safety and will therefore follow her to safer portions of the water (away from heavy boat traffic and now oil). They’ll even come to her boat when they are feeling ill.
“I feel an obligation,” says Lori. “I know that they depend on me. They have supported me in the best job anyone could every have… I’m gonna give something back.”
That statement right there is enough to make me sing Lori’s praises. She has a passion for her cause and has found a niche way to help in the chaos that is the Gulf oil spill.
Thanks to Melissa for bringing us this great story – keep up the good work.
