I remember them vividly from my childhood-the fundraising catalogs my elementary and middle school teachers used to give out. I loved the section that had all the wrapping paper samples, which made for fine origami paper. I'd scour the catalog fantasizing about earning the most money for my school so that I could score that fabulous boom box or pizza party for my classroom.
The products themselves were never all that great though. And the fact that I had to go door-to-door to try and sell stuff drove my loving mother nuts. Two decades later, kids are still fundraising in a very similar fashion. But EcoLabel Fundraising just might be a game changer in this industry. This fundraising company still sticks to the traditional concept of fundraising, however, their catalogs only sell organic, eco-friendly and/or fair-trade products. And they practice what they preach: Each catalog is printed on 100% recycled paper using soy-based inks. Fundraisers/buyers can also skip the paper route completely and shop online. Each sale earns the school or non-profit organization 40% of the profit.
The inspiration behind the company that fundraises green the green way is Jeanne Reslan. With a passion for the environment, for education, for fundraising and for her children's future, Reslan said goodbye to "her high-paced, high-income career selling petroleum-based chemicals and oil to dedicate her skills and life to the mission of helping schools and non-profits raise funds responsibly," as it notes on her site.
The concept is very smart for it allows for a lot of green goodness: people get to buy green, sell green, raise awareness about green, talk about green and create more green for the future.
