Tails for Whales

A grassroots campaign dedicated to showcasing worldwide support for whales

So far more than 5,900 folks around the globe have taken their hands, formed them into the shape of a whale's tail, and taken a shot of it. Why you may ask? It's for Tails for Whales , a campaign started by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW ). IFAW, founded in 1969, is an organization which saves animals in need around the world.

Whaling and other endangerments to the whale population such as ship pollution and oil development have long been controversial topics among nations, conservationists and everyday people. The goal of Tails for Whales is to show governments around the world the increasing support for conserving the whale population. The photographic petitions are being used for TV ads, posters, blogs, and news stories as well as petition books that will be sent to government officials. Last year, Tails for Whales gave away its first 600+ photographic petition book to Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
