Al Gore in Athens: 'Leadership in a Changing World'
(CSRwire) Leadership in a Changing World
Speaker: Al Gore
Tuesday, October 14, 2008
Athenaeum InterContinental Athens
ECOWEEK is proud to announce the keynote lecture by former U.S. Vice
President and Peace Nobel Laureate Al Gore entitled Leadership in a
Changing World in Athens on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
ECOWEEK invites Al Gore to Greece again this year, to address leadership
and environmental issues of global warming and climate change among
political, and business leaders in Greece. Al Gore presented his slide
show on global warming at the Athens Concert Hall in June 2007 invited by
ECOWEEK and Megaron Plus.
Al Gore is invited to speak at two events:
(a) A reception for a distinguished audience of 500 political and
business leaders at the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens, and
(b) A Q&A session with secondary-school students, following the
simultaneous screening of award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth
at the adjacent National Insurance Conference Centre. The speaker will be
introduced by Greek Minister of Education Mr. Evripides Stylianides and
ECOWEEK President Dr. Elias Messinas. It is a rare opportunity offered to
selected High School students to hold a discussion with a global leader
and environmental activist, who is the co-winner, with the United Nation's
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize
for "informing the world of the dangers posed by climate change." Students
will then carry the message to their schools in every part of Greece.
Al Gore's keynote lecture opens ECOWEEK's 2008-2009 programmes of
screenings of documentary An Inconvenient Truth to more than 30,000 High
Schools students in Greece, Cyprus and Israel; the international young
architects Forum in 7 countries, and the announcement of ECOWEEK
international conference "Ecology + Leadership + Architecture" to take
place in Athens in April 2009. ECOWEEK has presented documentary An
Inconvenient Truth to an audience of more than 10,000 in Greece and
Cyprus, and more than 10,000 secondary-school students since 2007.
Leadership in a Changing World
Arguing that the physical changes in our planet will eventually influence
our global economy, Vice President Gore encourages political and business
audiences to consider broader issues -- environmental, social and
political -- when planning economic strategy. An active leader in
technology, Vice President Gore discusses technological advancement and
the potential of user involvement. He identifies key opportunities and
challenges in digital society. Acclaimed for his environmental
achievements, outlined in his bestselling Earth in the Balance: Ecology
and the Human Spirit, and his bestselling book that inspired an
Oscar-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, ultimately brings home
Vice President Gore's persuasive argument that we can no longer afford to
view global warming as a political issue but rather, as the moral
challenge facing our global civilisation.

environmental issues raised in the documentary.
This is a unique opportunity offered to Greek Gymnasium students from
Attica and surrounding regions to meet and communicate with a global
leader and environmental activist, who is the co-winner, with the United
Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, of the 2007 Nobel
Peace Prize for "informing the world of the dangers posed by climate
change."

environmental documentaries to an audience of more than 15,000, including
more than 6,000 High School students. Screenings have taken place
throughout Greece and in schools in Larnaka, Cyprus.
ECOWEEK's 2008-2009 programme, entitled "Team 15+300" includes more

leadership and the environment, to more than 300 schools and more than
