ICMM Publishes Mine Closure Toolkit

(CSRwire) - August 18, 2008 - ICMM's new toolkit, Planning for Integrated Mine Closure, provides practical guidance for closing a mine in a sustainable manner.

The new planning toolkit, which is intended for use by both large and small companies, builds on existing ICMM material and incorporates a number of new tools.

Although closure planning ideally begins early in an operation's life cycle, the processes and tools in the toolkit are still valid for circumstances where this has not been possible.

ICMM Chief Operating Officer, John Groom, said "When undertaken in an integrated fashion, mine closure planning can help ensure that a mine makes a significant contribution to an area’s social, economic and institutional development, and also minimizes long-term environmental impact."

A full copy of the toolkit is available free of charge from our website (www.icmm.com), or can be obtained in hard copy from info@icmm.com
