John Henry Packaging Group and the Blackmore Corporation have teamed up to turn unused plastic plant tags into plant trays.
Blackmore, a horticulture products producer, and John Henry, a maker of plant packaging, are asking growers and garden centers to collect clean, unused styrene plant tags to be recycled instead of thrown out.
David Steiner, vice president of Blackmore, said the company has been taking unwanted tags from customers for years. The new partnership was born out of requests from John Henry Packaging Group customers about how they could recycle tags they don't need, according to John Henry.
Blackmore's trays are made with about 80 percent post-industrial polystyrene, and the recycle tags can be added to the mix in any amount, Steiner said.
Businesses interested in the recycling program must enroll in it through Blackmore, which receives and recycles the tags. Blackmore is currently only taking clean tags to avoid the added complexity of cleaning dirt and materials off of used tags. |
