Reusable Packaging Gets 6 New Proponents
August 5, 2009 - Six new members have joined the Reusable Packaging Association, furthering the agencies attempts to influence end-user adoption of reuseable packaging.
Three of the six new members are high-profile end-users of reusable packaging systems; Pilgrim's Pride, Ready Pac Produce and Tanimura & Antle have all committed to the RPA. The three other new members are the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA), StopWaste.Org, and YottaMark, Inc. The three new end-user members manifest the organizations strategic decision earlier this year to focus on companies actually employing reusable packaging. The organization defines end-users as a company that uses employs reusable packaging in its supply chain for the movement of goods from manufacturing to end consumer.
"The RPA has made a concerted effort to recruit end users because they are the most in touch with the barriers to the adoption of new reusable packaging applications in their segment of the supply chain and they can provide insight on how to improve existing applications," said Chris MacGrory, Membership Committee Chairperson, RPA. "These three high-profile companies will help give voice to the end-user segment of the supply chain and will help guide the RPA's future initiatives."
The association conducts regular studies of packaging issues, and recently released a paper on the reuse of RFID tags. The RPA also announced earlier this year that it would offer a Green Assessment Tool to help companies determine the environmental impacts of their packaging design.
In recent Sustainable Packaging News, Sony announced that it would reduce the plastics of its DVD offerings and China banned the use of "unhealthy additives" in consumer packaging.
