Clean Air BlogsDry Cleaner or Starship? Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 7:52am.
Last week my friend, a young urbanist who has been apartment hunting in downtown Miami, emailed asking me for an opinion. Sure. I’m here for you buddy. How can I help? He asked me about the dry cleaner in his future neighborhood.
“It appears to be very green,” he said, “but I’d like to hear what you think.” He thought I’d want to see it - - It would be a “dry cleaner experience” unlike any I’d ever had, he said. There beliefs are so strong that they will argue strongly that it does not exist, that the science is inconclusive,or even if it does exist it is not our fault. What those folks should consider is that the world burns something close to a cubic mile of oil each year and we have done that for a while. We also burn coal, wood, and agricultural wastes. And our garbage dumps, cows and other activities add to the human-caused airborne load of methane and other greenhouse gases.
