Opportunity Green Means Business Submitted by dantheman on Mon, 11/10/2008 - 1:54pm.
I was in Los Angeles this weekend attending Opportunity Green 2008 with about 449 other folks. ‘Tis the season for autumn leaves, a crisp breeze and every magazine in America talking about a fall fashion overhaul. Obviously, the most eco-friendly thing to do would be to disregard the hype and dust off last year’s sweaters, but let’s be honest: Even green-minded folk get the urge to shop now and again. The question is, what’s the most sustainable way to update your closet? » read more Oh Stop. You're Making Me Blush. Submitted by Two Girls ... on Tue, 10/28/2008 - 9:43am.

To Buy Or Not To Buy? Submitted by Sustainabl... on Mon, 10/20/2008 - 6:16am.
One of the first things to happen when you start storing trash in your basement is that you think a lot about “stuff”. The stuff we buy, the stuff that stuff all comes packaged in, the stuff we throw away. Stuff, Stuff,Stuff. It’s everywhere, and in many ways, it has become endemic to who we are. » read more
If I Had $73,000 Dollars Submitted by twoges on Wed, 10/08/2008 - 9:37am.
I still would not buy one darn thing from the Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog. It takes pretentious to the next level. How can anyone justify spending $73,000 on a cell phone studded with 7.2 carats of white and pink diamonds? Or buying your own submarine for $1.44 Million. Just because you can doesn't mean that you should! So many people have truely lost sight of what is really important in life and are too absorbed with keeping up with the Jones'! Knowing that there are people in this country without healthcare I could not walk around talking on my $73,000 cell phone! What » read more

Happy Birthday GM. And thanks for the goody bag you presented to us during your birthday party on September 16, 2008: The Chevy Volt.
A tear almost (almost) trickled down my cheek as I watched good old Bob Lutz drive the Chevrolet Volt 2 feet down a stage and onto a turntable (see video here). »

Although style and fashion are limited to the individual, a trend that we can all flaunt in vogue is the “health conscious saving of the environment.” You may be wearing an organic tee, perhaps one that is embellished with a whimsical promotion of being Green, but if your laundry duty consists of dryer sheets your attempts at environmentalism are counterproductive. »

Saving Some Green Submitted by Two Girls ... on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 5:41pm.
Hooray! I have finally moved closer to work! Thanks weather persons and Gov Charlie Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 8:52am.
While weather persons talked all night about Tropical Storm
Fay, I slept . . . quite well. My peace is surely a testimony that I believed
in them with their non-stop tracking, squiggled drawings from computer models
and the mighty cone of predictability. They said it would not intensify to a
major hurricane overnight like Charley did in 2005.

Now the windbreakers make sense Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Mon, 08/18/2008 - 9:02pm.
I've been embarrassed all day for the those reporters in hooded windbreakers on location at the beach talking about the storm. Their sleeves weren't flapping, the hoods weren't wet and the sea behind them was calm yet they were working to drum up a sense of urgency. They're getting wet now. The rain is steady, daylight is gone and the wind is picking up. My dining room is full of wicker furniture from the porch and the palm trees on the porch are lying down. Ordered voluntary evacuation - 4:30 p.m. Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Mon, 08/18/2008 - 4:35pm.
I've slowed down my movement somewhat - I'm stumped interpreting the red band scrolling words across the bottom of the TV screen "ordered voluntary evacuation". Can they order someone to volunteer? They are talking about my neighborhood. Just now the weather man on the air stopped to stare a a piece of paper handed to him. "There's no way Fay is going to head further to the west," he said" The storm is coming in right here in Southwest Florida. The storm surge is going to be your biggest issue folks." We live on the waterfront. » read more »
The Weather Guy and Fay - 9 a.m. Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Mon, 08/18/2008 - 9:18am.
The Weather Channel guy is sometimes misinformed. I know this because he told me the winds in my neighborhood are at about 25 mph. He is quite wrong. I'm on the porch and the tree branches are barely moving. Local forecasters are calling Tropical Storm Fay "the Joker" for its elusive tendencies. Hurricane modeling predictions are inconsistent and the storm is unpredictable. No one is excessively concerned on my street. At our house, we've gathered up all our loose items and put them inside, which is a real bonus for me. » read more »
Outlaws of Nature Submitted by Sara Schley on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 9:37am.
Aug 14, 2008 In 15 years of private sector work in sustainability, I was often asked by company executives, “What’s the business case?” Meaning, prove the profitability of going green. How will this increase shareholder value? What’s the impact on Wall Street? Like so many colleagues, I struggled to come up with an answer that was analytically and financially sound. I failed. » read more Rock. Roll. 'N Recycle. Submitted by Two Girls ... on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 7:40pm.
