This month, Scientific American published an article documenting a pilot project in Florida that is demonstrating a method of redirecting landfill waste. Dealing Weeds Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 12:23pm.
Yesterday I wrote about my yard adventures while here in Lincoln, NE. But now yesterday’s success is today’s conundrum. What to do with the weeds - - er, I mean plants removed from the wrong place. As the nightly news turns from number of houses destroyed by storms to the tons of debris left behind, I thought it might be appropriate to post a blog on building materials reuse. Here is a case study by Amanda Suutari from the EcoTipping Points website. Too Far for Peanuts Submitted by GreenHomeLady on Mon, 04/07/2008 - 10:42am.
I struggle at being a sensible citizen of the planet. There is a lot to remember - -like taking a reusable shopping bag into the supermarket. Sometimes I don’t think of it until I’m checking out.
Currently my dilemma is how to get rid of my stash of polystyrene packaging peanuts like a good citizen. I’ve been hoarding them until further notice knowing they will outlast me by centuries if they go into the landfill. I’m striving to be responsible, but right now bags of peanuts are crowding my car out of the garage. Today voila! I discovered a source of help. » read more »
