Would it be nice if all of could walk to or at least see where our food comes from?  Many of us are working hard to make that a reality in rural, suburban and even urban settings.  Plant a garden.  Join a community garden or work to get farmland preserved.  It will always pay off in the long run.  Check out how we are doing it in Vermont:

The snow is still falling but we in the Northeast are so anxious to touch the earth of our gardens and see our friends at the farmer's markets that we are ignoring the bitter cold and through force of will alone calling home the spring. 

The maple trees are sprouting buckets again. Happens this time of year- soon sweet watery sap will flow form the trees and fill the buckets, and I’ll take them to the sugarhouse to be cooked down over pinewood fires into thick syrup. We’ll give a lot away and keep a few gallons to get us through a year’s worth of pancakes, waffles, smoothies and ice cream.  Abundance. » read more
