Storm stories abound on the evening news as autumn approaches. Down here in the south, we have a unique storm hazard. Alligators. They can appear in the ditch by the driveway, in the swimming pools, the ponds of a subdivision or quite seriously, in your living room if a door is left open. We once had a 8'6" gator take haven in our courtyard. Had to call in professional trappers fromFlorida Fish and Wildlife (one was a woman, I'm proud to say). » read more »

The United States Navy has agreed to limit the use of low-frequency sonar to certain training centers in the Pacific Ocean. Their use of it has severly damaged the reproduction of whales and dolphins which use sonar to communicate. This was agreed upon after the use of the Navy's specific sonar was termed illegal. It looks like our government is finally listening that their disregard for the environment is damaging our eco-system. This is a large step for cooperation between organizations and our government. »
