Dealing Weeds

Yesterday I wrote about my yard adventures while here in Lincoln, NE. But now yesterday’s success is today’s conundrum. What to do with the weeds - - er, I mean plants removed from the wrong place. I have taken for granted the recycle service I’m used to at home. If one doesn’t choose to compost, every Friday in my hometown we have the opportunity to put out yard waste by the curb for pick up and community composting. We put it out when we also roll the container of other recyclables to the curb. That’s not the case here.

Lincoln’s system is less proactive, but they have their plan. A household can hire a service to pick up recyclables or yard waste. Or, they also can drive to recycle centers with your materials. Either way, the individual household must take the initiative to find and hire the service and there’s a cost whether paying a monthly fee or in gas for driving to a recycle center.

The Lincoln Star Journal also offers a recycling pick up service for $10 per month if you are a subscriber or $12 per month if not.
