In Florida it has become popular for developers to grade and fill wetlaNDS IN ORDER TO BUILD CHEEZY "UP-SCALE" homes spaced 10 feet apart on 50x50 lots. The literally cut down century oaks, cypress, and othe native crerating tiny deserts that are often up to 10 defgrees above the surrounding wooded areas. Then they plant manicured lawns, requiring huge amounts of nitrates and watering, and beutifully trimmed gum (native), and non-native crepe myrtles. I love pointing out that the first wildlife to populate are the Norwegian Rat. I know it's mean, but it is true. Besides, the resaidents often kill the snakes that would otherwise control the snakes (which are mostly harmless rat snakes and racers). I tell my neighbors to please call me anytime a snake is spotted andf they want it removed.
