Students Create Bio-fuel from Algae
Some students at Raby School for Community and Environment in East Garfield Park grew algae and created a bio-fuel and used it in a van as a yearlong class project funded by a $10,000 grant from petroleum giant BP's A+ for Energy program. The teacher behind the class and project is David Levine, a second-year teacher and Chemistry department head. Over 100 of Levine's 11th grade students participated in the project. The van used was a 1982 Volkswagen camper van, the kids hoped it would make a 20 mile round trip to Sears tower and back to the school . . .and it did.

This is a great way to get students involved in creating a greener world and learning about energy at the same time! BP is doing something good by offering that grant. If only there would a government sponsored grant program for alternative energy like this, maybe we'd get somewhere faster.

Awesome!
A great way to show teens what they can do if they put their mind to it. Also a good way to get them to care about science! I know that it was my least favorite subject in high school.
