Arez106's blogAmount of Heavy Rainfall to Increase Submitted by Arez106 on Fri, 08/08/2008 - 11:35am.
With the summer being mostly rainy, at least for the Northeast, with many warnings of rain, thunderstorms, and flash floods a study study has found that the rainy years be the noirm in the future. A study conducted at the University of Miami and the University of Reading, provides evidence confirming the link between a warmer climate and more powerful rainstorms. The team studied 20 years of satellite observations and examined the relationship between tropical rainfall and changes in surface temperatures, as well as amospheric moisture. » read more Windows that are also Solar Panels Submitted by Arez106 on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 12:21pm.

The EPA has released a report stating global warming, and the climate change could result in "substantial" health risks, such as heat waves, hurricanes, and pathogens in the future. Other risks include an increase in amount of diseases contracted through food and water. The report comes after the agency recently decided to not regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. The report claims that in Eastern cities, the warmer climate will create bad air days, similar to that of California. » read more Green Exercise? Submitted by Arez106 on Fri, 06/20/2008 - 2:35pm.
When I first heard the term green exercise, I thought about exercise machines that claim to be "environmentally friendly." I don't know any that exsist, but just think, a treadmill that is "green" . . .wouldn't the greener option be running outside and not on an electronic item? However, I was wrong. Green Excerise refers to participating in physical activity while enjoying a natural environment or sharing nature with others. Now that, doesn't sound bad at all. Nature can make physical activity more enjoyable! » read more Freecycle Submitted by Arez106 on Mon, 06/16/2008 - 3:10pm.
I think that a free exchange network is a great idea and love that this website has one. However, right now there are not many things on it. I am sure it could be a big deal one day though. I didn't know that actual groups that "free exchange" existed. My friends father told me all about freecycle this weekend when I said I needed a new couch for my apartment. Freecycle are groups on yahoo in many towns and cities across the US. You join the email group for towns in your area and receive emails when ever people have things to give away. » read more Anheuser-Busch Cleans Up Fleet Submitted by Arez106 on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 2:12pm.
Anheuser-Busch just received funding to clean up their act. The EPA gave the company a $150,000 grant to do so. They are working on getting trucks that contain multi-stage filters to trap and reduce emissions by 70-80 percent. The Hunts point Fleet is located in the Bronx, contains 75 trucks, 15 of which will contain the new filtration devices. The fleet will also fuel the trucks with bio-diesel. The company hopes to have 22 of these new trucks by 2009. They are also swapping out diesel engines with compressed natural gas engines.

Senate climate bill blocked
WASHINGTON - Senate Republicans on Friday blocked a global warming bill that would have required major reductions in greenhouse gases, after a bitter debate over its economic costs and whether it would substantially raise gasoline and other energy prices. Democratic leaders fell a dozen votes short of getting the 60 needed to end a Republican filibuster on the measure and bring the bill up for a vote. » read more Senate taking up key climate-change bill Submitted by Arez106 on Mon, 06/02/2008 - 1:09pm.
The Senate will decide this week whether to follow in California's footsteps and pass legislation requiring cuts in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. Lawmakers are to vote today to begin debate on a bill that could reshape the U.S. economy by requiring industry to pay to emit carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases. Opponents call it a new tax on industry that could raise gas prices and energy bills for consumers. Supporters say it's a crucial step to advance cleaner energy and protect the planet. » read more How Green is your home state? Submitted by Arez106 on Mon, 06/02/2008 - 12:31pm.
It seems that Vermont is the Greenest state in the US (according to a Forbes article). That doesn't surprise me. Neither does the fact that most of the top 20 greenest states were either on the West or East Coast. my home state of good old MA is number 11. I remember back in middle school the town gave out recycling bins and made it "mandatory" to recycle or you would get "fined." Of course no one got fined, but its a good scare tactic. It also got our family big into recycling and that is where my green personality started as well. » read more " Is your meeting green enough?" Submitted by Arez106 on Fri, 05/30/2008 - 1:44pm.
