Freecycle
I think that a free exchange network is a great idea and love that this website has one. However, right now there are not many things on it. I am sure it could be a big deal one day though. I didn't know that actual groups that "free exchange" existed. My friends father told me all about freecycle this weekend when I said I needed a new couch for my apartment. Freecycle are groups on yahoo in many towns and cities across the US. You join the email group for towns in your area and receive emails when ever people have things to give away. I joined the groups for 3 of my neighboring towns. Check out freecycle.org if you want to know more or find a group in your area!

I have tried Freecycle, but have found that the moderators are so controlling and when I moved it took me 3 tries to get accepted into my new local Freecycle. The mod required a phone number and address and all sorts of information from me before they would let me join. then it took AGES to get a post approved!
So, I started using http://www.FreeMesa.org What a difference! No waiting to join or post. when you move, you just change your zip code and poof! you get the new offers and wanteds. There are also other local groups that you can join if you want.
I would highly recommend it.
You can do it here in greenopolis as well as many other places.
BTW, the biggest directory to community-based freecycling groups is at:

Cheers,

There are a lot of groups on Yahoo that do the same thing. They just decided to let the members of the group make the decisions about what is allowed to be posted, rather than a corporate entity.
Check out a some of these directories to find a group near you.

There are lots of people who freecycle, without being a part of Freecycle! LOL

my whole family uses free cycle, they get really good things sometimes
I will try the overfinder (or whatever it was called!), but so far I have just used FreeMesa with my childrens school. They have their own group and it seems to work well. I'll see what the other groups are like. I hope i can get some good things too.
thanks!
