Green Exercise?

When I first heard the term green exercise, I thought about exercise machines that claim to be "environmentally friendly." I don't know any that exsist, but just think, a treadmill that is "green" . . .wouldn't the greener option be running outside and not on an electronic item?

However, I was wrong. Green Excerise refers to participating in physical activity while enjoying a natural environment or sharing nature with others. Now that, doesn't sound bad at all. Nature can make physical activity more enjoyable!

Green exercise can refer to informal play and games on local greenspace, to adventure and
orienteering in national forests and parks.

Nature can be a very relaxing things, and with a majority of the population being overly stressed, I think a dose of nature and soem physical activity would do a number on the amount of stress reduction.

Green exercising can be anything from playing a game of soccer outside in the field down the road with the boys, or taking a hike through the woods with your family.

The UK has a few organziations that put together green exercise programs and activites for children. That would be a great way to increase the physical activity amount in our childrens schools and to get the children of US active again.

Other examples of green exercise include:

Biking, swimming, hiking, walking, running, yoga and similar activities in a natural setting, sports games, childrens games, ropes courses, wilderness exploration, etc.

You can even consider conservation activities such as planting flowers or trees as exercise, hey it burns calories!

Almost every form of exercise, physical activity, or game can be brought outside to a natural setting. Try it today! (Just don't hurt the environment doing so.)

That is interesting. Although, I don't think it should necessarily have to be a whole new field coined green exercise. It's simply connecting back with nature and participating in physical activity outside of the gym.

I love hiking and taking random walks around wooded areas. Its so fun to explore!

But it is a good way to get kids in nature and physical activity at the same time!
