Help prevent 7 coal-fired power plants!!

Co-op America

THE PROBLEM:

American coal-fired power plants...
...pollute our air and water with mercury.
...destroy Appalachian communities through mountaintop removal mining.
...contribute more carbon dioxide to climate change than any other electric utility.
...are all dirty – every last one!
...are not cost-effective for energy companies (the price of coal has quadrupled in the past year - and will increase more if Congress passes the proposed bills to tax carbon dioxide emissions).

WHAT WE'VE DONE ABOUT IT:

We're working to convince energy companies to trade dangerous, dirty, pricey coal for solar, wind, and geothermal energy and increased energy efficiency.

Last year, you helped us stop 15 new coal-fired power plants!  (Dominion - who we've been fighting for three years - canceled three of their four planned plants and finally began to invest in wind power!)

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION:

Dynegy (including its subsidiary LS Power) is planning six new coal-fired power plants – more than any other electric utility.  Dominion has already begun preparing the site to build a plant in Virginia later this year.  (Dynergy and Dominion are two of the biggest coal-committed power companies in the U.S.)

Help us prevent these seven plants from being built NOW!

Mad about coal and pumped about green energy,
Jocelyn
