Join us in asking Clorox to take back and recycle Brita water filter cartridges!!

A lot of us have been asking what we can do to help reduce plastic waste. Well, one way is through using water filters instead of buying bottled water.  In fact, according to the Clorox company, which owns the Brita filter systems (the #1 market share of pour-through filter cartridges in the US), “one pour-through filter can effectively replace 300 standard bottles of water."

That’s great, and we’re all for giving up bottled water!  However, if all of the 50 billion water bottles that Americans used in 2006 were replaced by Brita filter systems, then that would mean 167 million plastic filter cartridges sent to the landfill!  We think there’s a better way than substituting one kind of plastic waste for another…

That’s why we’re supporting the new “Take Back the Filter” campaign.  Brita in Europe has developed its own collection and recycling system for used cartridges, but Brita in North America has not, so please join us in asking Clorox to go further and take responsibility for the millions of plastic filter cartridges that are also landfilled or incinerated each year!

*What YOU can DO…

1. Sign the petition.

2. Write a letter to Clorox executives.

My boyfriend's mom and dad use Brita filters and I can guarantee they throw those things away. I'll be happy to pass on the word that they can send them to the "Take Back the Filter" campaign headquarters instead of just tossing them with the weekly trash.
