Did Big Plastic Pay Off The FDA???

One dangerous, widely used and well researched chemicals that is found in many plastics is called Bisphenol A, or BPA for short. This chemical is found in sippy cups, the epoxy linings of canned food, baby bottles and countless other items. The organisations producing these products have fought hard and must have somehow bought out the FDA. It is obviously clear through years of research that the hormone disrupting chemical is dangerous, but through aggressive Search Engine Marketing, the creation of websites such as bisphenol-a.org, by employing their own scientists and lobbyists, and possibly buying out the FDA, Big Plastic has triumphed as the FDA has given their ruling that BPA is not dangerous. This has outraged the scientific community, including scientists, doctors and politicians with half a brain.

The main problem with BPA is that it's being used in CANNED FOODS and baby bottles such at Avent's plastic baby bottles. Numerous studies have shown that when the baby bottles are exposed to boiling water or when they are put through the dishwasher they break down and the BPA seeps into the baby's milk/formula.

Toxic Baby Bottles

When legitimate scientists have conducted studies on BPA, it is consistently linked
to obesity, developmental problems, risk for heart attack, and breast and
prostate cancer. Even if there was the slightest chance that BPA was dangerous the FDA should've banned it from plastics, especially BABY BOTTLES. What could be worse for a baby then to expose them to these risks?!?!?!

According to the AP release:

"The FDA's assessment relies on just two studies which were funded by the
American Chemistry Council (ACC).  This ignores dozens of other studies done
by independent scientists which have found evidence of health consequences,"
says Dr. Sarah Janssen, a physician and scientist with the Natural Resources
Defense Council (NRDC).

"The chemical industry's efforts to hide or misrepresent the hazards of
its product have been so blatant that Congress has felt the need to
intervene," said Dr. Jennifer Sass, a scientist with NRDC. Congress is
scrutinizing the communications between the ACC and a PR firm, the Weinberg
Group, whose clients have included the alcohol and tobacco industries.

A Union of Concerned Scientists has showed that there is a widespread interference within the FDA agency, which to me is a red flag that the FDA is in the pocket of Big Plastic.

As huge companies like Dow Chemical and other plastic (petrochemical) companies continue to grow their profits, their wealth is obviously becoming more important to the FDA then the safety of the public.

"The federal government's failure to prevent harm for American citizens is
unacceptable: When will government learn to err on the side of caution instead
of risk equations?" said Lois Gibbs, founder/executive director of the Center
for Health, Environment and Justice.

Here are just a few of the hundreds of studies that have been done on this chemical:

I am really glad to see that

I am really glad to see that these organizations are finally doing something to make this situation better. They are like an alcohol rehab for this bad situation we are confronting with lately.

Baby's R Us will take your avent or other BPA bottles and give you the ones without BPA for the difference in price. What a great thing to do!

I find it absolutely terrifying how self serving our government continues to be, day after day.

Thank you.

Good article, thank you.

This explains a lot, and I wonder how the irresponsible profiteers find any peace, having caused so much illness in their own society even to babies. No wonder these problems are so much more in US than elsewhere, especially in the so called less developed countries.

Who had ever heard of obesity problem in babies before this stupidity? It is not as if some rich people in some rich nations couldn't have overfed their babies with the same foods! And yet this is new.

It has to be the plastic and other such industrial stupidities of endangering own people.
