Are you concerned with climate change?
Greenopolis Founder

I am one of those people that is concerned with climate change; specifically, how these effects will affect my everyday life. I am also interested news stories, environmental changes and even local and federal governmental action to combat these changes. Today when I was listening to the radio I heard that NPR.org has a whole section that it populates with nothing but climate change news. The non profit National Public Radio has teamed up with National Geographic to create this excellent hub where you can learn about everything from the decreasing amount of sea ice, to what you can do everyday to help avoid dangers from climate change.

I found this resource very useful; I hope you do as well:

Great post - not too much bias

sfma2.jpg

Thanks for the info! - Great link!

...and while I personally feel as though NPR does show evidence of bias at times, at least the bias consistently trends toward the precautionary side, which I think is wise in all cases.

Cheers!

I guess my post was a little over-enthusiastic about NPR, wasn’t it?

What I was trying to get at is this: of all news media out there these days, NPR is by far one of the more reputable in means of content vs. spin. They do impart some bias, as do all media sources, but I think by and large they are more interested in reporting facts, and less focused on boosting their ratings.

NPR is the only group that can report honest, unbiased data. They have no need to create spin in an effort to boost their ratings. Go NPR!

nothing to worry about...eh? mmmyeah...ok

how can you say there is nothing wrong with what is happening to our climate that will not devastatingly affect our world? it already has and it will only get worse! and one degree every 195 yrs? lets try a possible six degrees (celsius..check out the documentary) within the next century or less if pollutants being released continue at the rate they are! and with more drivers and gas guzzling vehicles hitting the roads everyday...i wouldn't be surprised to see changes within the next decade! and i absolutely agree with the statement about katrina...right the people of new orleans will just shrug off the still damaged parts of their town and wait for a probable category six hurricane to strike to finally wake up...which i believe will happen in the near future, just give it time without any progress made to our environment and it will happen. same goes for more tornadoes...don't you find it quite odd how many tornadoes have ripped up the midwest this WINTER??? yeah, that's because there have been increasing amounts of warmer, milder days clashing with sudden cold fronts that will create stronger, more recurrent storms! and why is this? oh because the pacific winds (el nino) are lasting longer and before you know it will be permanent, absolutely shifting the entire climate of the U.S., and the planet! so you can't say there is nothing to worry about when it comes to climate change and that it's a ''healing'' process of the planet because it's not! the planet took centuries upon centuries to clean up the mess before and after the ice age and the times of the dinosaurs (which i believe happened due to a sudden climate change that absolutely killed everything off). but what do i know? think forest green baby!

Give a hoot, don't pollute!

Dear little girl,
I disproved you once. Please don't make me doit again. Check the reply I sent you on one of your blogs. Where I showed you when the warmest winters and the coolest summers were. The documentary is not completely truthful. I've done the research it is POINT sIx degrees, not six, every hundred years or so.

Not really I lived in the northern Ohio from 79-99. In those twenty years I can remember quite a few winter tornados. There were also many milder days in the early 80's too. I have a picture of me and my mom, on March 17, 1988 and we both have sleevless T-shirts and shorts on. Like I said I already sent you the info on the coolest summers and the warmest winters. I don't have it near me but it was something like 56 was the warmest winter and 88 was the coolest summer. So it's normal.

Are you completle serious? El Nino? What about El Ninia? The laste time we heard about El nino was in the mid 1800's. That went away for a while. Why can't this?

Why can't I? It is. and 7 centeries isn't that long. Do some research. The last ice age was in the 1300's. It's an everlasting cycle.

You will notice that there are a few people who seem to have nothing better to do than scan for threads related to human-caused global warming. They seem to think that if they come in and used a lot of exclamation points, they will somehow dissuade people’s views on global warming. Arguing with them if futile; they have the incessant need to get the last word in. In a perfect world, we would all be happy to accept that there will always be different points of view, and come to an understanding that the “why” will never be as important as the “what”, as in, “what are we doing to protect our environment?” But, these people don’t seem to get this.

I think our best course of action is to ignore their anger-stricken words, and do our best to support a caring community, where we stress education and understanding.

I know I hate people that do that.

I just want people to know the REAL truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been doing research on climate change for a good four years now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO I really do know what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
midget wrote:

Arguments are needed to have an inteligent descussion. This site is completly one sided and I wish more people would do their own research and actually see that we are not in as bad shape as the politicians make it look.
midget wrote:

I don't NEED to get the last word in. I just wish people would listen.

Because honestly the environment had as much protection as it needed, before all this "GREEN" bull. The more the human race trys to the more we cause. This has been happening for ever. We need to leave things we don't fully understand alone.
midget wrote:

Honestly I do get it.
midget wrote:

How are my wors anger-stricken? All I want to do is spread the real truth. Not this Al Gore streach of the truth. I have never once said anything hateful about any member here or that we should all go pouring oil into sewers. So how I'm I so anger-stricken? You son of a..... Oops..... I mean my friend.
midget wrote:

Again I agree. I do care about our community. Before all this "GREEN" talk came about, I did my part. I recycled, I cut the six pack rings, I never litered, I told people they should do what I was doing, I tried to conserve water, EVERYTHING! But I don't want it shoved down my throat. So I do understand. Again that was all we needed to do. We in no way needed to go as far as we are going. I have all the info I need. So maybe I should be the one stressing the education and understanding part.

Think Black!

I've said this a million

tirefire.jpg

I've said this a million times! We in no way should worry! This has happened before and it will happen again. The hole in the ozone layer is fixing itself, the temperature is only incresasing a single degree every 195 years or so, and the sea ice isn't decreasing as much as anyone makes it seem. I wish I still had a link to a site I read about a year ago so people like you could know the REAL truth. DOOM AND GLOOM!!!!!!! RUN FOR COVER!!!!

Educate Yourself...

Red Panda

So you're saying we shouldn't care, and educate ourselves about climate change and environmental effects? That's not very smart is it? Should the people of New Orleans just ignored Katrina? Should the people living on islands not measure the sea level?

The thing a lot of people can't understand is this:

It doesn't matter what causes climate change, it is a real thing that we all will have to live with, regardless of what causes it.

The right question!

sfma2.jpg

I think you're dead on, here... in most cases, it seems that arguing over the causes of climate change only masks the deeper, more serious question:

What can we do (if anything!) to maintain and protect our current global agricultural zones?

Cheers!
