Let's face it - Jimmy Carter's energy policy foundation was to wear sweaters and turn the thermostat down. This was 30 years ago after a major Oil crisis. Sadly, even over the last 50 years - maybe one of the best energy plans we as a country has ever had. Sadly, maybe the only real energy plan ever proposed by any politician; democrat, republican, or congress. » read more Environmental Banking Submitted by mothereart... on Sun, 12/14/2008 - 3:43pm.
With all the news in the financial industry - self destruction from greed, over consumption, wreckless leverage, sterile corporate business models, and clear criminal activities, there is one bright segment - Your Local Credit Union! There are about 9000 local Credit Unions in this country - about the same as the classic banks and S&L. However, they have not taken on the risk, business and lending scams like the latter. No need to swing for the fence (unless you have unlimited funds) when there are so many incremental changes that can be made to lower our carbon foot prints, save money, and secure America from foreign oil dependancy. We know about light bulb changes, proper air in tires, bike or walk if possible, plant a shade tree, and other techniques that have been around for 30-50 years if not forever. Have you ever noticed when walking around the neighborhood that very few people have their front door open. In the summer the AC is on and the houses are locked down. Specifically these newer developments since none of the houses are built with screen doors. I live in Calif in a area that it consistently can reach 100 through the summer. We recently installed a innovative screen door system on all the doors and now use them everyday and have yet to use our AC.

I'm not a fully compliant veggie eater but if there is one animal on the plant that should be extinct - it is cows. Cows are one of the largest environmental catastrophe's we humans are directly responsible for. Just a few of the nasty and very real problems with Cows:
Start a Garden Submitted by mothereart... on Sat, 08/30/2008 - 2:03pm.
The benefits of having a garden is staggering when you really drill down since a garden is normally associated with just growing a few veggies. But what about adding a few fruit trees or shade trees, some shrubs, or flowers for bees. If you really wanted to go for the food resources - it is amazing what a few dwarf fruit trees can provide. Apricots, Cherries, Asian Pears, Apples, Figs (want a shade tree!), Pears, Peaches, Oranges, etc. You would be surprised at what climate zones are supported. » read more Why Push Air?
