What America Stands For
Greenopolis Founder

This is a speech I would like to hear someone in power give.  Anyone would do, as long as they're heard, but I wrote it really just because I'm beginning to get extremely frustrated with the political process in this country.  From the President to the media to the voters, the whole thing is frustrating me, and I'm trying to get over it.  Consider this my ranting space. » read more

To Change the World
Greenopolis Founder

This was originally sent to my godparents in response to one of their emails in which they asked for thoughts on how we would like to see the world change. I liked it so much that I decided to put it on here.

"Well, for one thing I think that greed hasn't gotten us anywhere and it's certainly not GOING to get us anywhere. Thinking that the road to happiness is to have more or go more or do more or just more more more (biggering is what Dr. Seuss called it in The Lorax) isn't right or healthy. » read more

The Ethanol Debate
Greenopolis Founder

Ethanol is a promising new energy source, derived from corn and almost devoid of emissions when used in vehicles. It's easy to modify cars to use this energy source and already available in some pumps and in some vehicles.

However, there are issues that arise when we consider something like ethanol that's causing a debate throughout the scientific and humanitarian community. Ethanol is made from corn, wheat, barley, or sugarcane, all of which are cheap and widely used sources of food. » read more

The Lorax
Greenopolis Founder

This is a review for the short story The Lorax by Dr. Suess. I found the full text here if you don't mind funky text colors. This was submitted for a contest on progressiveu.org and I actually was one of the winners!

Review for The Lorax by Dr. Suess

"I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.
I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues" - The Lorax

With Dr. Suess's classic artistic and poetic style, the story of the Lorax and the Once-ler comes together. » read more

Carbon Belch Day
Greenopolis Founder

I have just discovered that today is "Carbon Belch Day."  I am not pleased.

Here's some links that you can visit to find out what Carbon Belch Day is (www.grassfire.org, Carbon Belch Day website), but basically it's an anti-environmentalism movement that is promoting the production of carbon emissions specifically for today (June 12th).  They plan to release over 100 million pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere today. » read more

Children and Nature
Greenopolis Founder

Since I started my summer internship as an interpretive ranger at Great Sand Dunes National Park I've been thinking about what it is we actually do here.  Many people don't really know when I say I'm in "interpretive ranger," but it's really pretty simple in literal terms: we interpret nature to the general public in the form of nature walks, presentations, and other ranger-led activities.  In a more broad sense, however, our job is much more than that. » read more
