Carbon Belch Day

I have just discovered that today is "Carbon Belch Day." I am not pleased. Here's some links that you can visit to find out what Carbon Belch Day is (www.grassfire.org, Carbon Belch Day website), but basically it's an anti-environmentalism movement that is promoting the production of carbon emissions specifically for today (June 12th). They plan to release over 100 million pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere today. What really galls me, or one of the things anyway, is that they're saying that this is all to "save the planet" because environmentalists are impeding global progress. They even attribute rising food costs worldwide to environmentalism. Maybe they should look toward rising GAS PRICES as a more plausible reason for that particular issue, don't you think? Even if they don't "believe" in climate change, how can anyone think that releasing greenhouse gases into the air that we breath is a GOOD idea?! Do they really think that only environmentalists are going to suffer from polluted air? It seems like they're ultimately shooting themselves in the foot by promoting further waste for several reasons. (1) When the planet's gone, they'll be gone, too! (2) They have to BREATHE this air the same as people who actually want to clean the air. (3) This has the potential of INCREASING gas prices even further! Even in the vein of national security (something that I'm sure takes precedence over the environment in these people's beliefs), wantonly using oil means increasingly sending money to countries who harbor or produce terrorists. It also drives us closer to running out of oil, an event that will surely weaken our military capabilities at home and abroad! And what about future generations? Are they going to look back and say "Thank God they instituted Carbon Belch Day! Rising sea levels are the best!"? Yeah, somehow I sincerely doubt that. Seriously, at the risk of sounding judgmental, how DUMB can you BE?! (1 vote) »

Tell the Fakers from the Real
I am sitting at a table with two other folks who are recruiting people to sign a pledge to cut their carbon footprints by 10 percent in a year. These are real people with real names. They understand the issue and are willing to take a step to do something about our current situation. This is in sharp contast to this group who are not upfront about who they are or who supports them.
Disappointing, but we are making progress because real people are taking real actions.
